Though born and raised in San Francisco, California, heartthrob car racer Rainy Cruz Medina is proud to carry the Philippine flag in his car racing journey.
"I really love the Philippines. I love coming here. It is here that I got my drivers license. I felt that it's weird that I got my license here and I'll be carrying the US flag. Besides the Phillipines is here to support me. I train here. My team is here. I'm just proud to carry the Philippine flag," said Rainy during the intimate interview organized by his aunt, the popular singer-actress Geneva Cruz.
Rainy was 14 years old when he started racing as a hobby and just decided to do it professionally at this year's Tuason Racing Formula V1 Race Challenge that was held at the Clark International Speedway last June 9-10, 2023.
He ended up taking home the first place for the first two races and second place for the third race which makes him the overall champion for the AM Class.
He is competing again for the second and third leg of the race season which will happen in October and November of this year.
"I'm leading the championship right now. Because you gain certain amount of points. At the end of the season the one with the most points wins the series," exclaims Rainy.
The 21-year old handsome racer signed up with Autoholic and Raceform for the 2023 Formula V1 season.
While waiting for the next race, Rainy will continue to train. At the same time he'll go back to California for his studies. He is currently in college and is set to graduate with a BA in business marketing at St. Mary's College of California next year.
Rainy is also a talented musician, coming from one of the most influential families in Philippine showbiz, the Cruz family, he can play the guitar, piano, bass, and drums. But he's not yet keen of bringing his musicality to a professional level because he's more focused on his racing journey.
Aside from his parents support, Rainy is grateful for the love and support he is getting from his Tita Geneva as well as the whole Cruz family.
"She's (Geneva) awesome. She spends a lot of time with me, with us when she's in California. I'm just thankful for the support that I'm getting from my relatives, from the Cruz and Medina families. I mean they love me and I love them so much," said Rainy.
Goodluck on your next race in October and November, Rainy!
